I came across a really cool application today called Google Sketchup. It’s a free desktop app that is deceptively simple to use, but seems to produce very professional results, even for old hacks like me. On one of the forums I visited recently someone asked what was the perfect website design for SEO. It got me thinking because although I have a good idea what makes a perfect (or at least a best guess perfect because who really knows how the search engines work) design, I’ve never sat down and created one.

OK, so I got a bit bored of the old design – it was a bit too dark for my liking and the right hand navigation didn’t work so well, so I took the main menu element from it (because I liked that part) and created a new design around it. I’m quite pleased how it has turned out.

Just a quick note for anyone interested in web design or thinking of building a website to go over and check out http://www.oswd.org as they have loads of good (and not so good) quality templates and layouts for free. There the occassional gems in the collection too.
